Optimum structural design of spatial truss structures via migration-based imperialist competitive algorithm

This paper presents a new hybrid algorithm generated by combining advantageous features of the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) and Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO) to create an effective search technique. Although ICA performs fairly well in exploration phase, it is less exploitation stage. In addition, its convergence speed problematic some instances. Meanwhile, BBO method's migration operator strongly emphasizes local focus on promising solutions finds optimum solution more precisely. The combination these two algorithms leads robust that has both exploratory exploitative functionalities. proposed named Migration-Based (MBICA). To validate performance, MBICA used optimize variety benchmark truss structures. Compared other methods, this converges better or at least identical reducing number structural analyses. Finally, results standard BBO, ICA, recently developed metaheuristic optimization methods are compared with study.
